Bishop Edward Mapunda (2015-)
The Ordinary of the Catholic Diocese of Singida is Rt. Rev. Edward Mapunda. He was born on 30th September, 1964 at Mango village, in the Catholic Diocese of Mbinga. He is the first born to his parents Elia Mapunda and Imelda Mapunda.
Bishop Edward Mapunda, got his primary school education in Mango Primary School – Mbinga, from 1974 to 1980. He joined catholic youth formation (VIWAWA) in 1983 at Makiungu Parish, in the Catholic Diocese of Singida. As from 1984 to 1987, he was at Dung’unyi Seminary, where he studied form one to four. He then studied form five and six (1988-1989) at Rubya Seminary, Bukoba Diocese.
Bishop Edward Mapunda did his Philosophical studies at Ntungamo Major Seminary from 1990 to 1992.He there after joined Segerea Senior Seminary (1992-1996), where he studied Theology. He was ordained to the diaconate on 30th November, 1996 and to the priesthood on 23.11.1997, by Rt. Rev. Bernard Mabula.
After his ordination he served as a teacher and formator at Dung’unyi Seminary from 1997-1998. From 1998 until 2000 he worked as Diocesan Executive Secretary of Catechesis. He did his Bachelor of Arts in Education (2000-2004) in the University of Dar es Salaam. He again worked as a teacher, formator and Vice Rector (2004-2006) at Dung’unyi Seminary. In 2006 he was appointed to be Diocesan Treasure General, Diocesan Executive Secretary of Health Department and Diocesan Executive Secretary of Education. He worked in the respective offices until 2014, when he went to Ireland for further studies in Theology. On 28th April 2015, while he was going on with his studies in Ireland, he was appointed Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Singida by His Holiness Pope Francis. He was consecrated bishop 5th July 2015 at Singida Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Bishop Desiderius Rwoma (1999-2013)
Rt. Rev. Desiderius M. Rwoma:Born on 8th May,1947 at Ilogero village, Bukoba; ordained priest on 28th July,1974 by Rt. Rev Nestor Timanywa; consecrated Bishop of Singida on 11.07.1999; nominated Bishop of Bukoba in 2013.
Bishop Bernad Marula (1920 – 2007)
The Rt. Rev. Bernard Mabula: born in 1920 at Ndala,Tabora; ordained a Priest on 15th August 1952; Auxiliary Bishop of Tabora (1969 – 1972); Bishop of Singida 1972 – 1999;Death-24 February, March 2007 and was burried in Singida Sacred Heart Cathedral on 1st March 2007.
